The House Of Kings

View the story of the construction and restoration of this majestic mansion...

Listen to a Georgian era stonemason with a three cornered hat, ponytail and leather apron describe his trade and then a modern day carpenter explains the huge task of restoring King House to its former grandeur. Try your own building skills as you attempt to construct a brick vault!

The fully accessible Attic Walkway offers visitors a unique chance to view behind the elaborate facade of an historic house, its original roof timbers and the intricate carpentry skills of the modern restoration.

Construction of this modern glass and steel Walkway formed part of the Gateway to Discovery project funded by the Irish Government and part-financed by the European Union under the National Development Plan, 2000-2006. It was supported by Roscommon County Council and administered by Failte Ireland in association with Ireland West Tourism.
